Modern Miracles

I recall reading of a scarcely remembered or even celebrated saint in Butlers’ Lives who touched locked doors that swung open for him. The list of miracles he performed in his ministry were countless. For example: The Miracle of the Sinners turned to Marble

“While preaching in Pampeluna, Master Vincent suddenly stopped and informed his audience that God commanded him to put a stop to a grievous offense being committed in the city. He descended the pulpit and a group followed him to the entrance of a large palace, who’s doors were closed. Vincent touched one of the doors which then opened by itself. Entering and traversing the halls and chambers, he exclaimed the impure vice which was occurring. Those who had followed Vincent could not see anyone but could distinctly hear the people in their sinful passions. St. Vincent implored them to stop, threatening them with terrible chastisements, but they derided him. They were all then changed into statues of marble. But being touched with compassion, he approached the statues and breathed into their mouths, restoring them to life. These sinners, moved from hearts of stone, all made their confessions one after the other. As each received their sacramental absolution, they expired at the feet of our Saint.”

Then of course one can refer to miracles performed 1350 years before St Vincent preached, to those of Jesus Christ predicting a donkey waiting  for his procession into Jerusalem.  How did He know that donkey would be there waiting for him, or the Room at the top for his Last Supper?. How did He know a gold stater would be waiting in a fish’s mouth to pay a poll tax?  or a fig tree would whither ifor not bearing fruit.? Of course all His miracles were a preparation for His greatest, the Resurrection of His dead body,

These miracles of Jesuse Christ and his saints down through history proclaim in no uncertain terms that supernatural powers are available of the sanctified human mind.

Obviously, fewer people in these latter days have qualified for that honor and distinction, so of course it’s become fashionable to pooh-pooh that miracles ever occurred.  .

John 21:25 The Message (MSG)

There are so many other things Jesus did. If they were all written down, each of them, one by one, I can’t imagine a world big enough to hold such a library of books.

Along comes modern Science with automatic door openers that sense  us as we enter a grocery store. People don’t call this a miracle because it can be explained by scientific logic and electronic schematics. The same for controlling objects from the mind as Musk ‘s Neuralink has recently demonstrated.. A doctor resuscitating a man dead 6 minutes in an ER room isn’t a miracle, but one of thousands of scientific achievements that don’t depend on supernatural powers. Anyone can push a button to see his cousin 3000 miles away on his cell phone.  We don’t hear skeptics of Science because tangible proof is available as to how its wonders are achieved, unlike saintly miracles. A polymath intelligence such as Thomas Jefferson stripped all the miracles of Christ out of his revised bible, because he himself was unable to reproduce those miracles on demand, a tenet of Science.

Skeptics like him abound these days, deferring supernatural miracles to the dreamy realm of childish fairytales or superstitious worship.

Man’s substitute god is Scientism which doesn’t require us to be holy in order to work its miracles. Any sinner can trigger sliding doors  to enter a grocery store.

Science is the god of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, inviting all to enter its wide material realm.

Scientism offers a god we can feel with our five senses But what Man has forgotten is the Unknown God beyond common sense….

The ultimate source of all scientific innovations or supernatural miracles is that Unknown God awaiting recognition by mortal Man.
