Constructive Treason

In King Henry VIII’s reign, Edmund Dudley, Speaker of the House of Commons, was convicted of embezzling church/state funds. He was imprisoned in the Tower of London and executed on Tower Hill.

The charge: “constructive treason.”

”Dudley was elected MP for Lewes, in 1491, and knight of the shire for Sussex, in 1495. In 1504, he was chosen as Speaker of the House of Commons. While collecting the king’s money, Dudley amassed a great amount of wealth for himself, which resulted in estates in Sussex, Dorset, and Lincolnshire.” Wikipedia

This Michigan priest, Fr Rosenberg, has committed no less of a crime than Dudley by embezzling almost a million dollars in clergy funds.

“While Judge Cori Barkman declined to impose a lengthy sentence requested by prosecutors, she told the priest in court March 18 that his lack of remorse was “egregious and even heinous.”

However, his is not the only case, and the linked article gives several reasons why 95 cases have occurred since 1960, one motive being ”the grinding and persistent force of envy.” Most of them received a light sentence. The following article explains why Fr Rosenberg has also received a light sentence for “constructive treason” against the Kingdom of Heaven.

If you were the judge, what sentence would you have imposed?
