Wokeism Defeated

How to defeat “Wokeism” in your town? Organize sidewalk rosary fetes versus quilting, bridge, or bingo sessions. Passersby will be stunned.

I know an otherwise intelligent Irish lass, supposedly a Disciple of Christ minister who, instead of being ravished by God in ecstatic prayer on St Patrick’s Day (March 17), will get smashed guzzling green-colored beer at a local Pub, comforted by her frivolous friends, also lonely and restless.

Thirsting for God in all the wrong places

I find it fascinating that intoxicating liquors get labeled as ‘spirits’, the implication being that a mood change can occur when imbibed. We are formed thirsting for the Holy Spirit but choose the vulgar way to careless abandon of our concerns, remaining restless unless drunk on the Spirit.

“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Eph. 5: 18-20 NRSV).
