This mother left her toddler alone for ten days and came back to find her dead. Lest you think this is unusual, it’s not. Some claim it’s mental illness, the catch-all phrase that explains zilch.

Forty years ago, I read a scientific article on the importance of sufficient dietary manganese for sustaining a maternal instinct in elephants for their young. Here’s a more recent article about Manganese deficiency in humans.

Seems to me that the long term effect of non-ecological agriculture by Big-Farma, looking for max profit while ignoring poor nutrient density in their food crops, is to blame for such cases of child abandonment. Not only child abandonment, but many other diseases can result from poor nutrient density in our food supplies. Supplements are a highly questionable substitute.
To be sure, the mother is an accessory to this crime, but not the primary cause which is the food supply denatured by incompetent, college professors, FDA, and USDA officials who don’t know what’s best for regenerating our depleted soil to maintain public health. The rampant use of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and excess tillage are causing massive degeneration of the soil and global populations.
(Read Dirt to Soil, by Gabe Brown who made his limpy ranch ecologically produce nutrient dense foods, ordered at NourishedbyNature.us …just one of many sources for excellent food. Better yet, grow some of your own fabulous vegetables in your Victory Garden.)
Many other diseases are the result of dirt-level nutrition, even in so-called organic foods, many of which are little better than commercial produce but at exorbitant cost. Whenever I read of a mass killing by a youth, I suspect one cause is the poor quality of that kid’s daily food supply.
Depleted soils and denatured food supply threaten our human race in truly unimaginable ways.
