The on-gong trade war with China puts a spotlight on Chinese-owned American companies. Did you know GE has been owned by a Chinese company for nine years.
General Electric
Although you might not know the history of General Electric, you’ve probably heard of the name. You might have even bought some appliances from them! But what’s impressive about this popular all-American company is the fact that this company is over 130 years old, as it was founded in 1882. And since then, it’s become a titan of the electronics industry. But while a lot of the appliances bought here will have “Made in America” stamps on them, this company is no longer American.

Although the appliances may be made in America, all of the decisions about General Electric are made by the Chinese company Haier. They bought General Electric back in 2016 for an incredible $5.4 billion.

And did you know Syngenta Group, wholly owned by Sinochem–a Chinese company, produces Atrazine, a widely used pesticide banned in the EU in 2004 because of transgender mutations from groundwater contaminants.
RFK,Jr is now investigating why the US continues using this genetic mutant.
Here’s a more detailed look at some of these examples:
- General Electric Appliance Business: In 2016, Haier, a Chinese appliance manufacturer, acquired GE’s appliance business for $5.6 billion.
- Smithfield Foods: The Virginia-based meatpacking company was acquired by WH Group, a Chinese pork company, in 2013 for $7.1 billion.
- AMC Entertainment: The nation’s largest movie theater chain was bought by Dalian Wanda Group in 2012 for $2.6 billion.
- Legendary Entertainment: Legendary Entertainment Group was acquired by Dalian Wanda Group
- Motorola Mobility: Motorola Mobility was acquired by Lenovo
- Ingram Micro: Ingram Micro was acquired by Huaneng Group
- Starwood Hotels: Starwood Hotels was acquired by Boutique Hotels
- Terex Corp: Terex Corp was acquired by China State Construction Engineering Group
Chinese investors and firms own a majority of almost 2,400 American companies employing 114,000 people. That’s’ not all: Chinese companies own farm land in the US, some next to military airfields. As of 2021, China ranked 18 out of 111 total countries that owned the most farmland in the United States. Chinese companies own 380,000 acres for farmland in the US.
